Ovulation Ιnduction

Ovulation Ιnduction

During ovulation that occurs in women once a month, an oocyte is released from an ovary moving down to the fallopian tube where it remains for 24-36 hours. In the event of sexual intercourse within the above time frame, the meeting of the spermatozoa with the oocyte is made possible, resulting in its fertilization. The fertilized oocyte will continue its journey from the fallopian tube to the endometrium where it will become implanted and where the embryo will develop until birth.

Ovulation induction is the artificial stimulation of the ovaries to produce oocytes and is done in cases where the event of ovulation is not regular by the collaborator clinicians of the center.

This service improves the chances for conception each month by increasing the number of oocytes that will ovulate. The ovaries are stimulated with a hormonal treatment chosen specifically for you, based on your clinical profile. The treatment may be given as tablets and/or as a daily injection.

The development of the follicles in which the oocytes are produced is then monitored using ultrasound. The ultrasound scan is also used to measure the thickness of the lining of the uterus to ensure that it is ready for implantation of the embryo.

Ovulation may be induced by an injection of a hormone called human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG). The hCG will make the oocytes to become fully matured in 36-48 hrs after the injection.

Pregnancy can be achieved, after the maturation of oocytes either with natural intercourse or with injecting prepared semen directly into the uterus or with in vitro fertilization.
